There is no clear way of finding a person’s values as yet.

We aim to make it as simple as one click with a reasonable amount of accuracy. The path is long.

For my detailed approach, check Effort / Accuracy Tradeoff of Values

Inputs

There are psychometric tests that haven’t been upgraded for decades. While they work reasonably well, I believe there are a few ways to derive a human being’s values.

  • Stated values: These are values that a human being states for themselves. I can say humility is my value. But it may not be. I may be lying for appearances, or I may not be aware that there is incoherence between my stated values and my actual values.
  • Words: Our words reflect our values. While our writing on social media might be quite close to our Stated Values, private writing like journal/diary will be close to our real values. In the future, I believe each one of us will record every day of our lives (for personal reflection, hopefully with complete control our own data). That would be the ideal input for ValuesDAO AI model. Until then, we use social media content.
  • Actions: How we act is the most accurate reflection of our values. In the future, as on-chain recording of actions and reputation becomes more prevalent, we will use that to derive more accurate values for a human being

Weights

Each value is also on a spectrum. So there is a weightage for each of them.

Then, there is priority. Portraits Values Questionnaire (PVQ) test by Shalom Schwartz particularly pays attention to priorities in Values.

Our multiple input system allows for weightages to be assigned with each value based on how it was minted and the accuracy of that method.

So AI-generated values, each community that you are a part of, self/stated values, and every other method will have it’s own weightage that will determine how strongly you hold it.

Methods

Currently, we have three ways of generating your values. We aggregate them weight-wise to know which values you hold dearest.

  1. AI Generation: For keep the first version of our product least effort, we have made a simple AI engine that takes your tweets / casts and generates your values
  2. Community Mints: One of the most important indication of my values are the communities i hang out in. In the future, all communities will define their values. We help you claim these values. If you hold a community token/NFT, you can mint the values of that community
  3. Manual Minting: Manual minting is the simplest way to communicate what you stand for. You just type out your values and press mint
  4. Note on peer-to-peer Values: A bunch of people asked us to factor in peer-to-peer value attestations. While this feels like a good idea, it is the highest form of signaling, especially when done in a public or non-confidential manner. The closest people will never attest a value that has negative connotations because it changes the relationship itself. While peer-to-peer values may fit as a part of the weightage, they are the least accurate of all.
