Web3 Social has opened a Pandora’s box by giving power back to the users.
Feed, graph, media and every aspect of digital social networks was controlled by companies like Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok.
Farcaster and the larger Web3 Social space are on a clear path to give control back to the users and also break the wall down into lego pieces.
One of the pieces that is ignored is the Profile.
We’ve seen richest of profiles in MySpace and the Facebook era. MySpace allowed me to design every aspect. I had the Christmas snow javascript to show my youthful enthusiasm. Facebook allowed for places, music, food, hobbies and other personality markers.
While these markers were shallow, they worked and were incredibly valuable.
Twitter and Instagram moved the trend towards Social Media instead of it being Social Networks.
In that vein, they opted for low-context profiles. I don’t know much about an Instagram influencer except their feed.
This needs to change in Web3. Communities are built on trust and trust requires high-context profiles.
While Farcaster builds the feed, OpenRank builds the algorithms, Events.xyz, Bountycaster, Drakula, etc. build their specific Legos, I aim to build one of the most important but ignored components: Profile.
We start with Values because they are the key drivers of human behaviour.
Slowly, we will move to map people’s beliefs, attitudes, and various cultural markers.
This profile will be owned and controlled by you.
You, other people, applications, and protocols can feed information in this profile and also request to use that information.
You can read about the use cases here.
